This report has been written within a Leonardo Project named Vorange - Vocational Rehabilitation in Change. You may read the summary and the Contents in this page and ask, if you wish, the whole document in PDF. MSDs and VRR. Bencivenga, A. Carbone, S. Dondero March 2002 IndexSummary SummaryObject of the present paper is to offer a general overview of the musculo-skeletal problems, and in particular of their significance and peculiarity with regard to the occupational world. Furthermore, this report is going to verify the measures connected to prevention and will analyse the Vocational Rehabilitation issue where the preventive intervention has shown ineffectiveness. In the first chapter we'll present information on MSD: i.e. the meaning and the profile of the analysed pathology, the different ways this disease can be named and considered, which parts of the human body are affected by this type of illness, and the main and known causes of this sort of sickness. Afterwards, some European researches have been scanned so to make comparison, as much as possible, among the statistical data of the European countries, which are partners of the present Vorange project. Therefore, the data which have been collected strictly regard the work related musculo-skeletal disorders in Italy, Austria, Germany, Spain and Sweden as they result from different national investigations, and particularly from the OSHA researches. With regard to the Austrian and German data they are quite similar even though difficult to compare because of the features of the report (i.e. time frame of the data collection). With regard to the Swedish data it can be easily realised that there are very much data available and efficacious different perspectives , therefore the part concerning this country is much more relevant and dense. The reason why this report is going to dedicate so much space to this country and its collected data is because here we are in front of a significant and exemplar way of researching which has been conducted on a strong an consistent number of interviews. It could and should be used as a term of comparison by the other countries, if only the latter had sufficient and as much consistent data of their own national situation. But this one is exactly the core of the problematic issue, which results from the present paper. Thus, a correct and significant comparison among different data referred to the partner countries is at the moment not possible. With regard to the Italian situation it was veritable impossible to find sufficient and consistent data on the matter, which could even nearly be compared to the other countries statistical outcomes. The reasons of this lack of investigation are reported in the corresponding chapter of this work as well as some tables. However, these statistical data, even though hardly usable to make any kind of comparison, reveal that the results are, on the whole, consistent with the rest of the countries here analysed. Furthermore, summary statistical data of the European research have been presented, i.e. data regarding all the European countries, beyond those participating to the Vorange project. They offer interesting and significant elements, especially in order to plan preventive and educational actions. At last, the present paper summarises, in the final chapter, some considerations and thoughts regarding prevention and measures connected to the vocational rehabilitation which have been considered appropriate and significant to the discussed matter.
